Food Selection

When watching television, which I am always trying to limit, I am constantly amazed at the food selections from around the world. In the US, we are appalled at food selections that other cultures make; eating dog in Korea, monkey brains in China, and alligators in Australia. But when summer arrives, we day dream about the succulent steak cooked on our back yard grills. Very few people question the normalcy of this food choice. In our culture this is a norm, but can you imagine how disgusted a Hindu from India would be if this was served to him/her.

I am always amazed at how limited our food selection in this country is. Chicken, beef, fish...chicken, beef, fish...chicken, beef, fish.. As I step out into my backyard I wonder how many food sources I could find. My wife calls..."What's for dinner?" I reply "Squirrels, grasshoppers, and dandelions..."

Got Stink?

You meet a new friend or person and they seem perfectly normal. Right????

Just like an onion, as you peel away the layers, ya realize that we all got a little crazy.

Just like onions some have more stink than others, but we all got it.

Brian's Story

Ahh, he was known as the "Big Sexy," "Nelly," and "Coach Nelly." To me he was my cousin and and one my best friends. I only lived near him for over a year, but knew him for life. If I had to describe Brian, I would say that he is the closest thing to walking fun that I have ever encountered. Basically, the embodiment of fun. Some people might describe someone as a walking party, but Brain was more than that. Yes, he loved a good party and could sniff one out a miles away, but he could also make any situation fun. At boring family events, he might get a game going or start teasing one of our old aunts with fondness. He knew how to rib and make you like him even more by the time he was done. It was truly a special talent.

People talk about living life to its fullness. Brian was known to make every moment count. To him, it was always time to live in the now. People plan for retirement or a rainy day, but Brian always enjoyed the sunny days to the fullest so that when a rainy day came he had memories of the sunny ones to get by. May be in his heart, he knew his time was shorter than most, so he had to pack a life time of memories into 35 years.

As only Brian could do, he went out on St. Patrick's Day to "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling." There was not a dry eye in the house.

When I look back upon his life and my experiences with him, he taught me a few lessons:
1. Don't take your self to seriously
2. A good time can be had at any situation
3. Enjoy life every day because you never know when your time will up

Enlightenment

Let me start off to say that I am spiritual, but not really religious.

I was watching a television show the other day and they were talking about the life of Jesus. Have you ever heard of the Gospel of Mary? No? Me either. Parts of the Gospel of Mary have been found in several places of the Middle East and they have been started to be put together. It seems from history, that there was a big movement by some people to push women out of the early Church. OK, so that is no real surprise. However, it seems that Mary was one of the foremost teachers in the early Christian Church. OK, now the plot thickens even more...

It also appears at a certain time the Church started a smear campaign against her because they wanted it as a male dominated group. So was she really a prostitute? I am guessing that she was not.

If some of that is not interesting enough, the most important part of the show to me is what the Gospel of Mary said. It said that the second life or second coming of Jesus is not an actual event, but it is about enlightenment. It states something the the effect that enlightement is internal in us and we all of the knowledge and tools for it inside us, but through live we have to discover the internal knowledge and internal path to enlightenment. This is very similar to other teachings I have read that we all have the knowledge and tools for enligtment in us, and through life we need to discover them.

Why would the Church not want this message to be let out? Hmm...Control?

Being such a web monkey and using so much of my left brain, I have decide to start working more on developing the other half by doing more writing , painting, and photography.
